The Expert Working Group (EWG) for the EPPO Database on PPP Data Extrapolation met on 2025-04-08/09 in York (GB). Thanks are due to the Chemicals Regulation Division of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for hosting the meeting and providing excellent facilities. The EWG continued to develop the EPPO Database on PPP Data Extrapolation, a searchable database based that was first made available online in 2024. The database provides detailed lists of acceptable extrapolations for plant protection products for regulatory authorities in EPPO countries and applicants. The extrapolation possibilities listed in the Database are applied in the context of the registration of plant protection products for minor uses and should be used in conjunction with the recommendations in EPPO Standard PP 1/257 Efficacy and crop safety extrapolations for minor uses.
The work during the meeting included two main tasks:
1) Revision and improvement of the content of the current database: numerous pending issues and questions from the database users for 8 crop groups for fungicides and 11 crop groups for insecticides and acaricides were discussed and mostly resolved or answered. Extrapolation possibilities for effectiveness of products against slugs will be integrated into the database in accordance with EPPO Standard PP 1/095 Slugs as well as extrapolation possibilities for crop safety of fungicides and insecticides used in vegetable brassicas.
2) Consideration of the extension of the database to major uses extrapolation possibilities according to the new recently adopted EPPO Standard PP 1/331 Principles of efficacy extrapolations for major uses. Major uses extrapolation possibilities for foliar and ear diseases in cereal and for herbicides in cereal and grassland were discussed. A clear plan for the development of the database to include major uses extrapolation has been established.
The outcome of the EWG meeting will be presented to the EPPO Panel on General Standards for Efficacy Evaluation which oversees the activities of this EWG.
The EWG for the extrapolation database will next meet (possibly by teleconference) on the 2025-10-29/30.
